Specialized Support Group for Parents and Caregivers

Parents and caregivers of youth who have sexually offended will benefit from the 12 week support group offered by DFCC. Research has shown that participation in this specialized group improves the ability for parents and caregivers to cope with the situation, reduces the risk for the youth to re-offend and expedites the treatment process for the youth and the family.

Family support plays a vital role in the healing process for the youth but often caregivers experience their own feelings of guilt and pain. Participants in the group at the former SAFE-T Program (Thistletown Regional Centre) have reported that involvement in the group reduced their feelings of isolation, gave words to feelings and was a helpful and positive experience.  “We had the chance to talk with others......no one else in by life knows or understands what it’s like....”
